How this natural face oil supports ageing skin

As we age, our skin slows down the production of the things that keep it smooth, firm and glowing — like collagen, natural oils, and antioxidants. At the same time, the skin barrier can become weaker and more reactive, especially for sensitive skin types.

Face Oil+ was created to support your skin during this time — gently, effectively, and without changing everything that already works.

It starts with the same base as our original face oil: a nourishing blend of organic plant oils, rich in omega 3, 6, and 9 fatty acids, which help to:

• Strengthen the skin barrier
• Lock in moisture
• Calm sensitivity
• Leave skin feeling soft, smooth and deeply hydrated — never greasy

These oils are lightweight and non-comedogenic, meaning they won’t clog pores — and they’re naturally rich in vitamin E, an antioxidant that helps protect your skin from environmental stress.

To that base, I’ve added two gentle, plant-based actives — both backed by clinical research — to provide even more support:

Essential oils

The essential oils used have more than an aromatherapy function, they are aromaceuticals that have an effect on the skin too:

Frankincense essential oil is known as an anti-ageing essential oil as it has a rejuvenating effect on mature skin. It’s also great for acne prone skin as it has antiseptic properties that help kill acne-forming bacteria. Its anti-inflammatory properties are soothing and help to reduce skin redness. It’s wound healing properties help to reduce redness prevent and fade scars.

Lavender is well known as one of the best oils for skin problems like acne and eczema. It has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and wound healing properties.

Geranium’s astringent properties make skin less oily. It’s also antiseptic and anti-inflammatory and can help skin problems like acne, eczema and skin redness.

Sweet orange is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and has antioxidant properties, making it great for oily and acne prone skin. Studies how that citrus essential oils may provide multiple benefits for acne management.

The perfect choice… day or night

Face Oil+ is primarily designed as a night oil, applied after cleansing to give your skin all the nourishment it needs while you rest. But thanks to its gentle formula and non-photosensitising ingredients, you can absolutely use it in the morning too.

Unlike retinol, bakuchiol is stable in sunlight and doesn’t increase UV sensitivity — which means you can use Face Oil+ daily, morning or night, with confidence.

How to use

After cleansing, apply 3–5 drops into the palm of your hand and gently press or smooth the oil onto your face and neck.

• If your skin is oily or combination, try 1–2 drops
• If your skin feels dry or tight, you may benefit from a little more
• If it feels like the oil isn’t absorbing, try reducing the amount

At night, you won’t need an extra moisturiser — this oil is nourishing enough to use on its own.

In the morning, it layers beautifully too:

• Add a drop to your moisturiser for a winter moisture boost
• Use it as a make-up primer by applying 1–2 drops as your final step
• It’s also perfect for gua sha, facial massage, or face yoga

💡 Tip: After applying, cup your hands over your nose and take a slow breath in. The scent alone can bring a moment of calm.

A note on application

Avoid applying directly around the eyes. While Face Oil+ is gentle, the essential oils are best used away from the delicate eye area.

Do I use it before or after my moisturiser?

This is one of the most common questions I’m asked.

If you're using water-based serums or moisturisers, Face Oil+ should be your final step. It helps seal in hydration.

If you're also using SPF, apply the oil before your SPF as your second-to-last step.

Opening your face oil bottle

The pipette cap is tamper-evident and child-resistant — to open, press down and twist. It may feel a little firm at first, but this is intentional.

I chose this more secure cap after hearing feedback about standard pipettes leaking during travel — or being opened by curious little hands! This design keeps your product safe and mess-free.

Is it pregnancy safe?

While many of the ingredients in Face Oil+ are considered gentle, there isn’t enough information about the antioxidant coenzyme q10 and pregnancy.
To be on the safe side, I recommend avoiding this product while pregnant — or speaking to your healthcare provider for advice.

One of the things customers love most about the original face oil is its scent — many describe it as a spa in a bottle. It’s part of what makes it such a cherished part of their skincare ritual.

Face Oil+ contains the same essential oil blend as the original formula, so you’ll still enjoy that same calming, uplifting fragrance — while giving your skin a little more targeted support.

The blend includes frankincense, lavender, geranium bourbon, and sweet orange essential oils. Together, they create a layered scent with fruity, floral, herbal, balsamic and citrus notes.

Face Oil+ is packaged in recyclable blue glass, chosen not only for its protective qualities but also for its sustainability. For repeat purchases, you can choose an aluminium cap instead of another dropper — perfect if you'd like to reuse your pipette and reduce packaging waste.

All Amaranthine products are proudly certified palm oil–free, meaning no palm oil derivatives are used at any stage. Read more about why I choose to avoid palm oil.

Wherever possible, I use organic ingredients — not just for your skin, but because organic farming is better for the planet, using less energy and creating fewer emissions. Face Oil+ contains 76.5% organic ingredients.

The frankincense essential oil used in Face Oil+ comes from Boswellia carterii — a species that is not on the IUCN Red List. (You might have heard about Boswellia sacra, a similar species that’s considered near-threatened. That one isn’t used here.)

And the Bakuchiol? It’s sustainably sourced from the wildcrafted Babchi plant (Psoralea corylifolia), manually harvested in Central India. Only the top part of the plant is picked — so it can regrow naturally, year after year. The manufacturer uses less than 10% of the global seed crop, protecting the plant’s future while sharing its benefits.

Allergies and patch testing

This product contains argan oil, which is derived from the kernels of the argan tree and is technically classed as a tree nut. If you have a known tree nut allergy, please use with caution.

As always, I recommend patch testing any new skincare product before using it on your face — especially if your skin is sensitive or prone to reactions.

Apply a small amount to the inside of your elbow or inner arm, and leave for 24 hours. If no irritation occurs, it should be safe to use on your face.

Storage

The oil is packaged in high-quality blue glass to help protect the ingredients from UV light. To keep it at its best, store it away from heat and direct sunlight.

Each bottle comes in a blue glass dropper bottle. For repeat purchases, you can choose an aluminium cap instead — perfect if you'd like to reuse your pipette and reduce packaging waste.
